There are two main types of tow bar and two types of Pendle Mounting to fit them.
Two Bolt / Flange / British Standard Tow Bar
This is the classic two bolt mounting tow bar. A cast tow ball is secured to the tow bar bracket by 2 M16 Bolts spaced 90mm apart. It was historically more popular in the UK.
If you have this type of tow bar you should select our 'Behind the Ball' mounting. The mounting block is sandwiched behind the tow ball and becomes a permanent part of the tow bar assembly. With some models of rack you may be able to tow whilst carrying bikes.
Swan Neck Tow Bar
This is the type of tow bar which extends on a curved bar from underneath the car. They are traditionally more popular in Europe but are often the type supplied by car manufacturers as their own brand tow bar option. If you have this type of tow bar you should choose our 'On the Ball' mounting. The mounting block is in two halves which clamp around the tow ball itself using a 4 bolt fitting. The mounting covers the tow ball so must be removed to use the tow ball for towing.
